Clotrimazole belongs to the class of medications called antifungals. It is used to treat most vaginal yeast infections. Clotrimazole works by killing the overgrowth of yeast that is causing the infection.
How to use
Clotrimazole should be used exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Generally, it is inserted in the vagina once daily at bedtime. Depending on the strength used, it must be used for 1 or 3 or 6 days.
The cream can be applied on the outer vaginal area as well to provide relief to external symptoms.
Side Effects
Common side effects include irritation, itching, redness, burning, swelling, abdominal cramps and bloating.
Call the doctor immediately if you notice hives, blistering, peeling or vaginal bleeding.
Notes
Clotrimazole vaginal cream, tablets, lozenges, and topical cream are for vaginal use only. These products should not be taken by mouth. Clotrimazole lozenges are to be taken by mouth for Oral Thrush.
If you have multiple sexual partners or change partners often, check with your doctor before using Clotrimazole.
