Bimatoprost belongs to a class of medications called prostamides. This medication is available in eye-drop form.

It is important to use this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
The recommended dose of bimatoprost is one drop in the affected eye(s) in the evening. This medication should not be used more than once a day.
For eyelash growth, apply topically to the base of your upper eyelashes. Use only on the skin of the upper eyelid margins at the base of the eyelashes. DO NOT APPLY to the lower eyelid.

Contact your doctor if you experience these side effects and they are severe or bothersome.

burning eyes
dry eyes
eye irritation such as itching, redness, or stinging
headache
redness of the eyelid
Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:

darkening of eyelid skin colour
eye discharge
eye irritation
eye pain
increased blood pressure
increase in brown colour in coloured part of eye (the iris)
increased tearing
longer, thicker, and darker eyelashes
muscle weakness
sensitivity of eye to light
vision problems (e.g., decrease acuity, blurred vision)

If you wear contact lenses, remove them before instilling bimatoprost into your eye. You may put your contact lenses back in 15 minutes after using the medication.
If you are using other eye drops, apply them at least 5 minutes apart.

This medication can only be used once a day.

Bimatoprost is used to reduce the pressure inside the eye for people with open-angle glaucoma or intraocular hypertension (increased pressure in the eye).
It is also the first and only prescription treatment approved by the FDA for inadequate eyelashes, growing them longer, fuller and darker.

Store this medication at room temperature and keep it out of the reach of children.

Bimatoprost eye drops should not be used by anyone who is allergic to bimatoprost or to any of the ingredients of the medication.
Inform your doctor of other eye conditions such as uveitis. Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, or if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
