Penicillins are used to treat infections caused by bacteria. They work by killing the bacteria or preventing their growth.

The dose of these medicines will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders.

Consult your doctor immediately if you experience these side effects:
· Hives,
· rash,
· intense itching,
· faintness

Common side effects:
· Dark or discolored tongue.
Infrequent side effects:
· Mild nausea,
· vomiting,
· diarrhea.
· Bloody urine,
· face and ankle swelling.
Rare side effects
· Unexplained bleeding or bruising,
· weakness,
· sore throat,
· fever,
· abdominal cramps,
· convulsions

When you take Pentids with other medicines, it can change the way Pentids or any of the other medicines work. Nonprescription medicines, vitamins, natural remedies, and certain foods may also interact. Talk to your health care provider if you are taking:
· beta blockers such as atenolol (Tenormin), carteolol (Cartrol), pindolol (Visken), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol), timolol (Blocadren), nadolol (Corgard), and propranolol (Inderal)
· birth control.

Overdose of Pentids is unlikely to threaten life. If person takes much larger amount than prescribed, call doctor, poison-control center or hospital emergency.

Take Pentids as prescribed for the full treatment period, even if you feel better before the scheduled end of therapy.
Pentids can cause false results on some urine sugar tests for patients with diabetes. Those who are prone to asthma, hay fever, hives, or allergies may be more likely to have an allergic reaction to Pentids. If severe diarrhea occurs as a side effect of this drug, do not take antidiarrheal medications. Ask your doctor.

If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. This will help to keep a constant amount of medicine in the blood or urine. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

Pentids is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including those of the ear, nose, and throat, skin and soft tissues, genitourinary tract, and the respiratory tract.
Pentids is also prescribed preventively before surgery or dental work in patients at risk for endocarditis.
Pentids may also be given to treat meningitis and syphilis.

Store away from heat and direct light.
Do not store in damp places. Heat or moisture may cause the medicine to break down.

Oral contraceptives (birth control pills) containing estrogen may not work properly if you take them while you are on this medication. Unplanned pregnancies may occur. You should use a different or additional means of birth control while you are taking any of these penicillins . If you have any questions about this, check with your health care professional.

For diabetic patients :
Penicillins may cause false test results with some urine sugar tests . Check with your doctor before changing your diet or the dosage of your diabetes medicine.
